Tim Dykes,
pictured RIGHT, competing on the Players Tour, has been utilising
the services of expert Strength & Conditioning Coach, Mark Lewin
(Director of Coaching at APC) during the off-season to compliment
the excellent work undertaken by his coach, Iain Runcie of Abergele
Golf Club. Tim, who is attached to Wrexham Golf Club, has worked
extremely hard on his conditioning during the off-season with a
vigorous Mountain Bike and Hill Walking programme alongside his S&C
work at APC.
Mark comments; "Tim is a tall athlete with a wealth of experience
and a desire to succeed, these ingredients coupled with a structured
practice plan and S&C programme, create an environment where an
athlete can perform to the best of their ability. Tim has organised
his time, apportioned his golf practice, conditioning and strength
training on a priority basis and has established a foundation, upon
which, he can build a competitive career going forward. Golf, like
so many sports, requires detailed attention to physiological
preparation in order to attain the high standards of consistency so
important for winning events. Everyone at APC wishes Tim well for
the season and we will be watching his progress with great pride".
Andy successfully defended his Welsh Super Heavyweight Boxing title on
Friday 6th March 2009 against a tough, big punching opponent. Andy's
superior conditioning and ever developing technique and footwork won
through in a tough battle at Sophia Gardens, Welsh Institute of Sport in
Cardiff.
Mark Lewin, Head Coach and founder of the Athlete Performance Centre
comments, "Andy is a fabulous athlete, 6ft 4" & 104kg and super lean, he
is supremely dedicated to living the life of an elite athlete, but like
so many top amateurs, is balancing a full-time physical job with the
rigours of training and adhering to a strict nutritional regime in order
to maximise his potential. Andy is beginning to receive some first-class
support from the Sports Council for Wales and I sincerely hope that
based upon his results, will trigger a funding award that will assist in
reducing his work hours significantly enough to help him exploit his
competitive potential and attain representative honours for Great
Britain.
Andy is a big hope for the Commonwealth Games in 2010 and his superior
athleticism, dedication and capability will serve time well in his
aspiration to compete at the highest level. For a big man, Andy moves
with a lightness and agility relatively unseen in his weight category,
this coupled with his explosive power and the dedication of the coaching
team of Dave Evans and Mark Shepard at Deva Boxing Centre, will take his
boxing skills to new heights. Andy is an absolute pleasure to coach, he
is hungry for results, works extremely hard and is a true boxing
athlete."
Head Coach at the APC, Mark Lewin commented, "Joe is one of our
most supremely talented athletes and we are very happy to support
him in his endeavours to attain a championship title in 2009
